Year in Blogging Review + Life Update

May 23, 2017

Hi friends!

Around last time this year I sat in the library thinking to myself, "I'm going to do it. I'm going to start a blog." I told myself that I would blog about anything and everything, whatever came to my mind I would put down on this little website. Fast forward a year and many entries later and I'm proud of what I have accomplished with this little blog. I may not blog every day, week, or even month, but when I do blog I make sure I put my best foot forward. For me, it does not matter if I get one view or 100,000 views on my blog if the content I produce is not genuine and true to myself. However, I do want to post more, so expect more from me in the summer. Happy one year little blog.

Now that I've finished my sappy little bit at the top, I want to share some fun things with you all! This school year has definitely been one to remember. It was filled with highs and lows, whether it was meeting one of my favorite fashion bloggers or sitting in the library at 3am watching Carrie Underwood's American Idol audition and realizing I had accomplished no school work (what can I say, "Before He Cheats" is a bop). I was lucky enough to serve as the Co-Blogger with my dear friend Cat for my university's chapter of Society of Professional Journalists. Being on the e-board for this chapter has brought me so many friends, memories, and people to network with. I was lucky enough to be elected to serve as Vice-President of SPJ for the 2017-2018 school year! How cool! You'd think being elected the Vice-President was enough work for me, right? No. I ran for Social Media Manager for my university's chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America and got it! I'm excited to head into a busy, yet already promising fall semester full with 18 credits and two e-board positions.

Now for my favorite news of all: I GOT A SUMMER INTERNSHIP! After countless emails sent to public relation firms and then an interview, I will be spending my summer as a pr intern in Honolulu! I have decided to not disclose the name of the firm for privacy reasons, but I am so excited. Be on the lookout for a post going into detail of how I secured my internship.

Needless to say, this has been a busy semester and I'm heading into a busy summer as well. I have a couple post ideas lined up for the month of May and have plans to not be M.I.A. on the blog this summer. Let's toast to many more years of District Sydney and lots of future success to us all!

All the love,

Ten Spring Blouses to Buy Now

April 3, 2017

Hi friends!

I hope you are all doing well. Growing up spring was actually my least favorite season. I loved the warmth of summer, the crisp fall air, and Christmas is in winter, plus I've always loved turtlenecks. 😎 But spring? It was always the eh season for me. Now that I'm older, I love spring! Like any season, I'm always quick to see what's trending this season and to see if I can include it into my wardrobe. Some popular trends this spring/summer season are: off the shoulder tops, gingham, yellow (I've seen some AMAZING yellow pieces this season), bell sleeve tops, and pinstripes. Of course some of these trends have been around for awhile but they've really made an appearance this season. Shop some of my favorite blouses down below:

What's your favorite trend this season? See ya soon with a new blog post!

OOTD: NoDa

March 22, 2017

Hi friends!

I hope you are all doing well. I haven't blogged in awhile because I honestly just haven't had the time to! I'm so busy with school, my internship, my job, and my clubs that I unfortunately don't have the time to blog sometimes. However, my spring break was last week and I knew I wanted to get at least one look shot for the blog. I headed down to Charlotte, North Carolina to visit my friend from high school who goes to college there. We ventured into the up and coming neighborhood of NoDa. NoDa, which is named after North Davidson Street, the main street in the neighborhood, is small and quirky with lots of charm and character. After, we went to Romare Bearden Park to get some city shots as well. All my outfit details will be linked down below!

(side note: so sorry for the lighting quality in some of the pics I didn't do any test shots before we started shooting in the park😩)

Shirt: Zara (Similar) Jacket: H&M (Similar) Skirt: Nasty Gal (Similar) Boots: H&M Bag: BCBGeneration (similar) Sunnies: Ray-Ban

See ya soon with a new post!

Organization

March 6, 2017

Hi friends!

I hope you're all doing well! Organization is something that has NEVER come naturally to me unfortunately. I wish all my drawers and notebooks were nice and neat, but alas they are not. I really have to try and take that extra step to be organized, but when I do it's amazing. I always feel more productive and inspired when everything has a place. I'm definitely a perfectionist but you would never guess that if you opened up my desk drawer. Here are some of my favorite tips to be organized:

Get a planner.
I never started to use a planner until I got to college and I now wonder how the heck I graduated high school without one?! My little black planner never leaves my side. Whether I carry a backpack, tote bag (I alternate school bags depending on my outfit, incredibly extra oops), or my purse, my planner is right there. I right down everything from homework due dates, meetings, tests, coffee dates, work schedule, etc.. I would be way more scatterbrained than I already am without it.

Declutter.
Okay, real G talk right here. I am a packrat. I have SUCH a hard time getting rid of things and I don't know why. It takes a lot out of me to sit down and throw stuff away as it's so much easier to just pretend it doesn't exist. I constantly feel like the Kermit meme when it comes to throwing things out.

Me: "wow it's time to throw out these papers"
Me to me: "but what if someone asks you about that paper you wrote in the sixth grade and you no longer have it for proof???'
I spent more time making a meme of myself than I did writing this entire post.

Decluttering not only helps with downsizing but allows for more room for stuff you actually need. If you haven't touched/looked at it in a month, throw it out.

Form good habits.
Make it a routine to clean a certain day of the week, wash clothes on a certain day, or even start packing your bag the night before. Some things I try to do on a daily basis include making my bed every morning before I leave for class, pick out my clothes for the next day, and be sure I put all my clothes are hung up or folded as they should be (which is a rare sight but I'm trying so hard!).

What are some of your favorite organization tips??

Ain't Laurent Without Yves

February 15, 2017

Hi friends!

Anyone who knows me knows one of my favorite phrases ever when someone asks about my clothes is "oh I thrifted it!". I didn't start hardcore thrifting until last summer but I'm so happy I did. I constantly find great pieces that have become staples in my wardrobe. My best find to date is my bronze corduroy Yves Saint Laurent blazer that I thrifted for $12!! (yes, you read that correctly). I got it authenticated through Authenticate First where they told me it's most likely from the late 60's/early 70's. Needless to say, I've fallen in love with it.
