Fashion Friday: Fashion News

Hi friends, I hope you're all doing well! For this week's Fashion Friday I'm going to talk about some of the major fashion news from this week.


American Apparel Files For Bankruptcy and is Set to be Bought be Gildan Activewear, Inc.
This is the second time AA has filed for bankruptcy in over a year. They've come under fire for provocative advertisements in the past and have also had a drop in sales as of recently.

Nasty Gal Files For Bankruptcy
A personal favorite of mine has recently filed for bankruptcy and investors do not think they will be able to recover from this. Founder and CEO, Sophia Amoruso, stepped down from her CEO position in 2015.

Sophie Theallet Refuses to Dress Melania Trump and Encourages Others to Follow Pursuit
Theallet has dressed First Lady Michelle Obama for the past eight years and recently put out a statement claiming she will not dress Melania Trump. She claims that Melania's husband, president-elect Donald Trump, had his presidential campaign on everything her brand stands against.

Forever 21 Under Fire After Sweatshop Allegations
Fast fashion retailer Forever 21 has received more heat than usual lately due to recent allegations of their clothing being made in American Sweatshops. Workers are apparently being paid $4 an hour in Los Angeles, which is not only illegal but $6 less than the California state minimum wage.

Hugo Boss not Showing at NYFW
The Boss Womenswear line will not be showed at NYFW in February. The brand is currently under reconstruction under its head designer Jason Wu.

While obviously lots of fashion news and news in general happens everyday, these were the headlines that caught my eye. I mainly read The Fashion Law and Business of Fashion when it comes to receiving all my fashion news.
