OOTD: Hawaiian Blues

December 29, 2016

Hi friends!

I hope your holiday season has been treating you well! If you don't follow me on Instagram (which you should: sydney_cano), then you might not know that I'm back in Hawaii for the winter break. Since the weather here is pretty consistent year round, I can wear my summer clothes during the winter as well. Recently, I wore this outfit to go hang out with some friends. I switched out the heels for sandals for comfort purposes, but I really liked how this outfit was still cute, comfortable, and put together.

Thinking about what I'd look like if I was a dog.

Fashion Friday: Greenery With Envy

December 16, 2016

Hi friends!

Long time no see, I know. School hit me hard post Thanksgiving break and I found myself in a pile of  school work. I never want to see astronomy again to say the least.🙄

For those of you who do not keep up with the fashion world (wyd), Pantone recently announced the color of 2017: Greenery. I know what you're thinking "what the heck is a Pantone and what type of name for a color is Greenery?" I am here to answer both of those questions.

Pantone, according to their website, is a "world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems and leading technology for the selection and accurate communication of color across a variety of industries". In lamest terms, they're almost like a universal color index. Any color can be found on the Pantone website and some have super cheeky names. Each year they do a Color of the Year, announced late in the year before. I've been following Pantone's Color of the Year with my mom for as long as I can remember. I even have a phone case from them and have previously had a coffee tumbler by them as well.

"A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.

Greenery is described as "refreshing" and the "symbol of new beginnings", which after a rough 2016 I think is much needed. Gucci and Lacoste were already on the trend as they had the color in their S/S 2017 collections.

Gucci S/S 2017

Lacoste S/S 2017

The color immediately reminds me of when I was in the fifth grade and my drama club put on a production of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and we all had these kelly green shirts that sort of look like Greenery. So, to be sure you don't look like a Grinch I found some items that you can already start to incorporate into your wardrobe. Take on 2017 and the Color of the Year head first and leave others Greenery with envy.😉

Disclaimer: Not all the items are exactly the shade of Greenery, but I tried my hardest to find the exact color!

(this one's nice if you don't want to wear green alone or prefer prints)

If green is simply not your color don't worry, Pantone also has their top ten colors for Spring 2017 here.

How do you feel about the 2017 Color of the Year???

Make Your December a Dazzling One

December 1, 2016

Hi friends!

I hope you're all doing well. Can you all believe that it's the first day of December?? Wasn't it just January 2012 yesterday? This year has gone by so incredibly fast, it's ridiculous that it's almost 2017. While we cannot go back in time and change these past months, we can end the year on an awesome note!!! I've compiled some tips and cheeky lil things to make your December DAZZLING:

1. Make Your Coffee at Home
I know, we live in a world that practically spits our money into the hands of Starbucks, especially around the holidays. I mean, who can resist those little decorative red cups and drinks filled with pumpkin flavoring and sugar? By making your coffee at home you can save yourself a few extra bucks that will definitely come in handy when you're penny pinching post-Christmas shopping. My all time favorite coffee is Cafe Bustelo.

2. Pick Up a Book
Start reading more, fam. Seriously. As a child I was a huge reader and now I am so guilty of not reading unless it's required for a class. As tempting as it is to just lay around and vegetate in your free time, you shouldn't. Stimulate your mind and read for pleasure. Currently I'm reading Leave Your Mark which is fantastic so far.

3. Set a Goal
Whether that be going to the gym more, eating more fruits and veggies, or eating out less, set a goal and stick with it. You don't need the New Years to do better with your life and your aspirations.

4. Start Journaling
One of the best things about blogging is that the blog is sort of like my virtual journal. While I do not put my entire life on here, I do document my thoughts in an actual journal. One day you'll be able to look back and remember all the wonderful things that are currently happening in your life.

5. Use a Planner
Kind of piggybacking on the last one, use your planner. Decembers are so busy whether it's for work, finals, appointments or super cool hot yoga classes. As someone who's mildly forgetful, writing things down in my planner is a LIFESAVER. I use a black one similar to this.

6. Stay Hydrated
It's so easy to forget to drink water and fluids but with the seasons changing and the temperature going haywire all the time (PLEASE tell me how global warming isn't real, I'll wait) it's so easy to get sick. I make sure I have my Hydro Flask filled with me at all times. When I'm drinking the proper amounts of water a day I find that sometimes I don't even need coffee.

7. Don't Procrastinate
Coming from the queen of procrastination herself, do not procrastinate. It literally makes your life a million times worse, yet we all continue to push things back. Get things done early or as soon as possible so that way you have more time to spend drinking hot chocolate and watching movies and not writing that paper that's due tomorrow but was assigned at the beginning of the semester.

Let's all encourage another to do better in our lives and to help out others. With December comes the holidays and we should all reflect and be thankful for what we have, not resentful for what we don't. There are people who will spend their Christmas receiving nothing, alone, or sleeping in the streets. Volunteer, donate, and try to make everyone's December dazzling!
