Year in Blogging Review + Life Update

May 23, 2017

Hi friends!

Around last time this year I sat in the library thinking to myself, "I'm going to do it. I'm going to start a blog." I told myself that I would blog about anything and everything, whatever came to my mind I would put down on this little website. Fast forward a year and many entries later and I'm proud of what I have accomplished with this little blog. I may not blog every day, week, or even month, but when I do blog I make sure I put my best foot forward. For me, it does not matter if I get one view or 100,000 views on my blog if the content I produce is not genuine and true to myself. However, I do want to post more, so expect more from me in the summer. Happy one year little blog.

Now that I've finished my sappy little bit at the top, I want to share some fun things with you all! This school year has definitely been one to remember. It was filled with highs and lows, whether it was meeting one of my favorite fashion bloggers or sitting in the library at 3am watching Carrie Underwood's American Idol audition and realizing I had accomplished no school work (what can I say, "Before He Cheats" is a bop). I was lucky enough to serve as the Co-Blogger with my dear friend Cat for my university's chapter of Society of Professional Journalists. Being on the e-board for this chapter has brought me so many friends, memories, and people to network with. I was lucky enough to be elected to serve as Vice-President of SPJ for the 2017-2018 school year! How cool! You'd think being elected the Vice-President was enough work for me, right? No. I ran for Social Media Manager for my university's chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America and got it! I'm excited to head into a busy, yet already promising fall semester full with 18 credits and two e-board positions.

Now for my favorite news of all: I GOT A SUMMER INTERNSHIP! After countless emails sent to public relation firms and then an interview, I will be spending my summer as a pr intern in Honolulu! I have decided to not disclose the name of the firm for privacy reasons, but I am so excited. Be on the lookout for a post going into detail of how I secured my internship.

Needless to say, this has been a busy semester and I'm heading into a busy summer as well. I have a couple post ideas lined up for the month of May and have plans to not be M.I.A. on the blog this summer. Let's toast to many more years of District Sydney and lots of future success to us all!

All the love,

Ten Spring Blouses to Buy Now

April 3, 2017

Hi friends!

I hope you are all doing well. Growing up spring was actually my least favorite season. I loved the warmth of summer, the crisp fall air, and Christmas is in winter, plus I've always loved turtlenecks. ๐Ÿ˜Ž But spring? It was always the eh season for me. Now that I'm older, I love spring! Like any season, I'm always quick to see what's trending this season and to see if I can include it into my wardrobe. Some popular trends this spring/summer season are: off the shoulder tops, gingham, yellow (I've seen some AMAZING yellow pieces this season), bell sleeve tops, and pinstripes. Of course some of these trends have been around for awhile but they've really made an appearance this season. Shop some of my favorite blouses down below:

What's your favorite trend this season? See ya soon with a new blog post!

Hi friends!

I hope you are all doing well. I haven't blogged in awhile because I honestly just haven't had the time to! I'm so busy with school, my internship, my job, and my clubs that I unfortunately don't have the time to blog sometimes. However, my spring break was last week and I knew I wanted to get at least one look shot for the blog. I headed down to Charlotte, North Carolina to visit my friend from high school who goes to college there. We ventured into the up and coming neighborhood of NoDa. NoDa, which is named after North Davidson Street, the main street in the neighborhood, is small and quirky with lots of charm and character. After, we went to Romare Bearden Park to get some city shots as well. All my outfit details will be linked down below!

(side note: so sorry for the lighting quality in some of the pics I didn't do any test shots before we started shooting in the park๐Ÿ˜ฉ)

Shirt: Zara (Similar) Jacket: H&M (Similar) Skirt: Nasty Gal (Similar) Boots: H&M Bag: BCBGeneration (similar) Sunnies: Ray-Ban

Hi friends!

I hope you're all doing well! Organization is something that has NEVER come naturally to me unfortunately. I wish all my drawers and notebooks were nice and neat, but alas they are not. I really have to try and take that extra step to be organized, but when I do it's amazing. I always feel more productive and inspired when everything has a place. I'm definitely a perfectionist but you would never guess that if you opened up my desk drawer. Here are some of my favorite tips to be organized:

Get a planner.
I never started to use a planner until I got to college and I now wonder how the heck I graduated high school without one?! My little black planner never leaves my side. Whether I carry a backpack, tote bag (I alternate school bags depending on my outfit, incredibly extra oops), or my purse, my planner is right there. I right down everything from homework due dates, meetings, tests, coffee dates, work schedule, etc.. I would be way more scatterbrained than I already am without it.

Okay, real G talk right here. I am a packrat. I have SUCH a hard time getting rid of things and I don't know why. It takes a lot out of me to sit down and throw stuff away as it's so much easier to just pretend it doesn't exist. I constantly feel like the Kermit meme when it comes to throwing things out.

Me: "wow it's time to throw out these papers"
Me to me: "but what if someone asks you about that paper you wrote in the sixth grade and you no longer have it for proof???'
I spent more time making a meme of myself than I did writing this entire post.

Decluttering not only helps with downsizing but allows for more room for stuff you actually need. If you haven't touched/looked at it in a month, throw it out.

Form good habits.
Make it a routine to clean a certain day of the week, wash clothes on a certain day, or even start packing your bag the night before. Some things I try to do on a daily basis include making my bed every morning before I leave for class, pick out my clothes for the next day, and be sure I put all my clothes are hung up or folded as they should be (which is a rare sight but I'm trying so hard!).

What are some of your favorite organization tips??

Ciao for now,

Ain't Laurent Without Yves

February 15, 2017

Hi friends!

Anyone who knows me knows one of my favorite phrases ever when someone asks about my clothes is "oh I thrifted it!". I didn't start hardcore thrifting until last summer but I'm so happy I did. I constantly find great pieces that have become staples in my wardrobe. My best find to date is my bronze corduroy Yves Saint Laurent blazer that I thrifted for $12!! (yes, you read that correctly). I got it authenticated through Authenticate First where they told me it's most likely from the late 60's/early 70's. Needless to say, I've fallen in love with it.

Ciao for now,

January Favorites

February 8, 2017

Hi friends!

I hope you're all doing well. ๐Ÿ˜Š School is back in full swing and I feel like I'm SO busy. I have so much work for each class that I wasn't even sure I'd get the time to write this (umm who told my French literature professor it was okay to assign over 100 pages of reading for the next class). I actually sacrificed my nap time to write this blog post, so please keep your thoughts and prayers with my family and myself at this difficult time.

Here are some things I've loved in the month of January:

1. How to be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style, and Bad Habits
Seriously the cutest, cheekiest book I've read as of lately (says the girl who calls everything cute and cheeky). The book offers tips from real Parisians on things such as how to dress, throw a dinner party, raise children, and even actual French recipes. I felt like I was in Paris with a glass of Pinot Noir every time I  picked up this book.

2. Black Mock Neck Sweater
I feel like I'm married to the color black and am having an affair with anything turtle/mock neck related. So what more could I ask for when you combine the two? I got my black mock neck from a thrift store for around $6, but this one from H&M looks so cozy!

3. One Potato Two Potato Seaside Salt'n Vinegar
Salt and vinegar chips are some of my favorite chips, so I was surprised when I realized I had never tried out this brand's before. I always saw them while in line for Starbucks but never actually tried them until my best friend Nicki came to visit me. She bought a bag and let me try some of hers, and needless to say I was blown away. Seriously the best S&V chips I've ever had. They're not too salty, not too vinegary, and even have a hint of sweetness.

4. Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer
I first tried this out after I received it in a little Christmas gift box from my sister. I'm an oily gal at heart unfortunately and constantly have shine on my forehead. This primer not only helps to make my skin matte, but I feel like it makes my foundation look great as well. I like wearing this over my daily moisturizer when I don't wear makeup.

5. Nike Air Force 1's
Santa was nice enough to bring me a pair of shoes I've literally been eyeing for two years now. I seriously can't believe that this is the first pair that I have owned! I mean, I've only known the song word for word since I was 5๐Ÿ™„. They're seriously the most comfortable pair of shoes I own, even over my New Balances. I often pair them with my black mock neck and some cropped or cuffed jeans on warmer days (by warmer I also mean the upper 40's).

What have you been loving in the month of January?

January 19, 2017

For those of you who do not know, I attend college in Northern Virginia in the Washington, D.C.  metropolitan area. With a father in the military we've moved around a lot and my parents currently reside in Hawaii. Recently I was asked "aren't you scared to be over there by yourself?" to which I responded quickly and honestly, "no, not at all". This wasn't the first time someone has brought it up to me, but this was the first time I have actually really thought about it. No, I'm not scared to be across the country and the ocean from my parents. Seriously, I'm not. The real question to me isn't "are you scared?" it's "what is there to actually be scared of?"

I've never been scared to do what I want. I don't say that in a way to brag or seem super confident or even naive, it's simply the truth. I was never raised to approach my goals filled with fear. It honestly blows my mind when people say stuff like "I want to do this but I'm too scared to" or "I really want to visit this place but I'm scared". While fear is obviously normal it should never ever stop you from doing what you want. When it came around to talking and applying to college I immediately knew I wanted to go out of state (out of state being out of North Carolina at the time). Besides the fact that I despised being there, I knew that there was so much to the world beyond the town I was living in and I wanted to be able to see all the world has to offer me. I constantly got questions and comments like "how could you want to be so far away from your parents", "I could never do that I don't understand why you'd want to go so far away", or "you mean you've never lived there or have family there and you're going to college there now?!". I never let comments like that instill fear or discouragement in me as those comments typically came from people who were too scared to step out their own comfort zones.

While I sometimes overthink things and as a result get scared, I NEVER let the insecurities or fears of others stand in MY way of doing what I want. If you're scared of doing something right now, stop and think if this fear is self-inflicted or if someone else is trying to push their fears onto you. If it's self-inflicted, have a heart to heart with yourself and ask yourself why you're scared and how you can improve this. If it's someone else, really evaluate what this person's opinion means to you. There's a Japanese proverb that goes "Fear is only as deep as the mind allows". Change the way you think about situations and instead of approaching them with fear, approach them with positivity. It's all in your mind and out of all the things that are unchangeable in the world, the way you view situations isn't.

What's In My Purse?

January 17, 2017

Hi friends!

Happy Tuesday, I hope you're all doing well. For today's blog post I thought it'd be fun to show what's inside my purse. In all honesty I did clean it out a little bit so that you all wouldn't see how many McDonald's haupia pie receipts I had in there.๐Ÿ˜œ

The purse:
From my last couple posts you probably already know I currently carry the Lauren Ralph Lauren Glenmore Larisa Saddle Bag in Field Brown. I typically don't carry bigger bags as that just means more things I can throw in there and the heavier it'll be, but this bag is an exception. It's a good size as it's not too big so I can't overstuff it, but also not too small as to where my wallet barely fits in it.

From L to R going kindasorta clockwise:
1. iPhone 6 LuMee case in Rose Gold (before anyone says anything, it actually works and you never know when you'll be stuck with poor lighting but look A1 ¯\_(ใƒ„)_/¯)

2. Lauren Ralph Lauren Bainbridge Cosmetic Wristlet

3. Honolulu Museum of Art map

4. Mead 2016-2017 Classic Academic Weekly-Monthly Planner

5. Apple EarPods

6. BIC Gel-ocity Retractable Gel Pen

7. Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht (SUCH an amazing book, blog review will come soon once I finish it)

8. iPhone 6, Wildflower Cases case (my case is no longer sold)

Since I am constantly on the go, I can't always carry my actual purse around so I carry my Ralph Lauren wristlet in my purse as well. It has all the essentials in it so that way I can just grab it and go.

First pic clockwise:
1. Ralph Lauren authentication card
2. Dooney & Bourke wallet (I've had this for ages and it's still in great condition. They don't sell it anymore so here's a similar one)
3. Bath & Body Works Holiday Traditions PocketBac Sanitizer in Frosted Coconut Snowball
4. Free Jamba Juice smoothie card
5. Express gift card
6. NIVEA a Kiss of Smoothness Lip Care
7. School ID
8. Black compact mirror (I've had this for so long, it once had the Eiffel Tower on it when I was like 13)
9. Versace Bright Crystal sample (Instead of carrying around a regular sized perfume, carrying a sample around is much more convenient. Plus I actually don't own this full size, but i can still wear it I'm SUCH a scammer)
8. Random lose change that makes me feel richer than I am

Alternatives to my purse:
1. Sole Society 'Thalia' Crossbody Bag
2. INC International Concepts Willow Saddle Tassel Bag
3. LC Lauren Conrad Runway Collection Leather Saddle Bag

What do you carry in your purse?

See ya soon!

Ciao for now,
