Fear

January 19, 2017

For those of you who do not know, I attend college in Northern Virginia in the Washington, D.C.  metropolitan area. With a father in the military we've moved around a lot and my parents currently reside in Hawaii. Recently I was asked "aren't you scared to be over there by yourself?" to which I responded quickly and honestly, "no, not at all". This wasn't the first time someone has brought it up to me, but this was the first time I have actually really thought about it. No, I'm not scared to be across the country and the ocean from my parents. Seriously, I'm not. The real question to me isn't "are you scared?" it's "what is there to actually be scared of?"

I've never been scared to do what I want. I don't say that in a way to brag or seem super confident or even naive, it's simply the truth. I was never raised to approach my goals filled with fear. It honestly blows my mind when people say stuff like "I want to do this but I'm too scared to" or "I really want to visit this place but I'm scared". While fear is obviously normal it should never ever stop you from doing what you want. When it came around to talking and applying to college I immediately knew I wanted to go out of state (out of state being out of North Carolina at the time). Besides the fact that I despised being there, I knew that there was so much to the world beyond the town I was living in and I wanted to be able to see all the world has to offer me. I constantly got questions and comments like "how could you want to be so far away from your parents", "I could never do that I don't understand why you'd want to go so far away", or "you mean you've never lived there or have family there and you're going to college there now?!". I never let comments like that instill fear or discouragement in me as those comments typically came from people who were too scared to step out their own comfort zones.

While I sometimes overthink things and as a result get scared, I NEVER let the insecurities or fears of others stand in MY way of doing what I want. If you're scared of doing something right now, stop and think if this fear is self-inflicted or if someone else is trying to push their fears onto you. If it's self-inflicted, have a heart to heart with yourself and ask yourself why you're scared and how you can improve this. If it's someone else, really evaluate what this person's opinion means to you. There's a Japanese proverb that goes "Fear is only as deep as the mind allows". Change the way you think about situations and instead of approaching them with fear, approach them with positivity. It's all in your mind and out of all the things that are unchangeable in the world, the way you view situations isn't.

What's In My Purse?

January 17, 2017

Hi friends!

Happy Tuesday, I hope you're all doing well. For today's blog post I thought it'd be fun to show what's inside my purse. In all honesty I did clean it out a little bit so that you all wouldn't see how many McDonald's haupia pie receipts I had in there.😜

The purse:
From my last couple posts you probably already know I currently carry the Lauren Ralph Lauren Glenmore Larisa Saddle Bag in Field Brown. I typically don't carry bigger bags as that just means more things I can throw in there and the heavier it'll be, but this bag is an exception. It's a good size as it's not too big so I can't overstuff it, but also not too small as to where my wallet barely fits in it.

From L to R going kindasorta clockwise:
1. iPhone 6 LuMee case in Rose Gold (before anyone says anything, it actually works and you never know when you'll be stuck with poor lighting but look A1 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

2. Lauren Ralph Lauren Bainbridge Cosmetic Wristlet

3. Honolulu Museum of Art map

4. Mead 2016-2017 Classic Academic Weekly-Monthly Planner

5. Apple EarPods

6. BIC Gel-ocity Retractable Gel Pen

7. Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht (SUCH an amazing book, blog review will come soon once I finish it)

8. iPhone 6, Wildflower Cases case (my case is no longer sold)

Since I am constantly on the go, I can't always carry my actual purse around so I carry my Ralph Lauren wristlet in my purse as well. It has all the essentials in it so that way I can just grab it and go.

First pic clockwise:
1. Ralph Lauren authentication card
2. Dooney & Bourke wallet (I've had this for ages and it's still in great condition. They don't sell it anymore so here's a similar one)
3. Bath & Body Works Holiday Traditions PocketBac Sanitizer in Frosted Coconut Snowball
4. Free Jamba Juice smoothie card
5. Express gift card
6. NIVEA a Kiss of Smoothness Lip Care
7. School ID
8. Black compact mirror (I've had this for so long, it once had the Eiffel Tower on it when I was like 13)
9. Versace Bright Crystal sample (Instead of carrying around a regular sized perfume, carrying a sample around is much more convenient. Plus I actually don't own this full size, but i can still wear it I'm SUCH a scammer)
8. Random lose change that makes me feel richer than I am

Alternatives to my purse:
1. Sole Society 'Thalia' Crossbody Bag
2. INC International Concepts Willow Saddle Tassel Bag
3. LC Lauren Conrad Runway Collection Leather Saddle Bag

What do you carry in your purse?

See ya soon!

Top 5 Beauty Products

January 5, 2017

Hi friends!

I hope you're all doing well and had a great New Year's! Welcome to 2017!😸

I hope 2017 is treating you all well already and if not then I hope you turn it around into something special. Let's make 2017 a year full of self love! Do more things that make you happy whether that's blogging, hiking, shopping, watching novelas 👀, or going to the spa. Try new things this year and pay attention to yourself because you deserve it! I have some cool things already planned for 2017 that I can't wait to share on the blog.😸

For the first blog post of the year I thought I would talk about some of my favorite beauty products, most of them that I discovered in 2016. If you're in the market for any new beauty products I highly recommend any of these.

1. Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
Hands down, my favorite moisturizer EVER. I'm a fan of Clinique products in general and my mom sent this to me back in the spring after my face suffered from its first real winter. I'd wash my face and my cheeks would immediately make me look like I was an extra from an alien movie. I have extremely oily, acne prone skin and I was curious as to whether this would make my skin even oilier due to its claims of being so moisturizing. It did the complete opposite. It's a gel moisturizer so it helped to control my oil while still moisturizing my face. I used every last bit of it and it lasted me awhile as you don't need much.

2. Chanel Chance
I was just a little baby junior in high school when I first stumbled upon Chanel's Inside Chanel series on YouTube. I was enthralled by the videos and they sparked my interest in the fashion world. Fast forward a few months and I was gifted with Chanel's Chance. Described as "floral, spicy, sensual and rich" on their website, this has become one of my signature scents. You could always pick up a coat of mine in high school and expect your nose to be filled with the delicious scent of Chance. I always spray "a little Chanel for good luck" before any big or important event.

3. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II
This was a gift from my best friend and I honestly don't know how I lived for so long without it. Kat makes the best liquid lipsticks in my opinion. They're so comfortable that I literally forget I'm wearing anything on my lips. They don't crumble on my lips, aren't drying at all, don't transfer, and smell like heaven. Lolita II is the perfect everyday color for me, it's not too cool and not too warm on my skin tone. I've worn it with a full face of makeup and I've worn it by itself as well. It's the lipstick I always find myself grabbing if I'm running out the door or just need something simple that still stands out.

4. Shea Moisture African Black Soap Clarifying Mud Mask
I am 100% positive I am the only person on planet Earth who African Black Soap doesn't work for. Seriously. I've tried the Shea Moisture one and I've tried actual ABS and it does NOTHING for me. Absolutely nothing. However, the toner and the Clarifying Mud Mask from Shea Moisture's ABS collection work wonderfully for me. I just apply a thin layer of the mask at night and keep it on for 10 minutes or so and when I wake up my acne is smaller and some of it is completely gone.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar
This one may (or may not) come as a surprise to some people. If you've never heard or used Apple Cider Vinegar, it's fantastic to use on the inside and outside of your body. In high school when I would run out of toner I would mix equal parts ACV and water and use that instead. I use ACV to help clarify my hair and also as a spot treatment for acne. When using one of my other favorite face masks, I mix ACV with the clay to form the mask. I even add a splash to my water and green tea as well.

For all my hair favorites, check out the post I did on my hair.

What are your favorite beauty products? If you try any of these or have any suggestions for me let me know!
